STANDARDS went through the roof on a record-breaking night, writes ANDY BEAL.

In addition to Steve Greenough’s 18 for Garsington Sports A, an all-time high of 16 players hit a six.

Unsurprisingly Garsington came out on top at home to Ampleforth Arms.

The Section 1 visitors lost the opener 31-19, but made their hosts work for it, though, hitting back to win the second leg 30-27, before the Premier Section side took the decider 32-24.

Kevin Giles (5-6-5) and Neil Lyon (5-5-6) both clanged off 16 dolls as Three Pigeons won 2-1 at home to Gladiators A.

The hosts went ahead 32-26, but Gladiators, led by Dennis Butler (5-6-4) levelled by taking the second leg 35-32.

They set 32 in the final leg, but Three Pigeons rose to the challenge and claimed victory by whipping off 35.

Cricketers B won a see-saw match at Red Lion A Eynsham on three sticks after the third leg was tied 23-23.

Francis Hillier (5-5-5) had earlier helped put them in front 31-23, before the hosts hit back 27-24.

Kevin Stuart (5-3-6) kept up his fine form for Rose Hill Club A in Section 2 as they beat Black Prince A 24-17, 21-20, 25-24.

There was also a clean sweep for Team Monarch, who swept past Chequers A 28-10, 22-14, 21-14 with the help of a baker’s dozen from Clive Proudfoot (4-4-5).

Dave Green (5-5-6) was in sparkling form as he bagged a 16-doll haul in a 3-0 win for Chequers C at King & Queen A in Section 3.

The visitors ran out 16-12, 17-8, 19-12 winners.

Leaders Red Lion B Yarnton stayed clear as Adrian Lewis (5-5-3) and Mark Poulter (4-6-3) both hit 13 dolls in a 23-14, 24-19, 27-16 win at Headington Con Club A.

Three Horseshoes stay second after also claiming a 3-0 win, at home to Queens Head A.

Phil Jackson (4-5-4) led the way with 13 dolls, but after taking the opener 24-22 they had to rely on three sticks in the second leg after it was tied 19-19, before winning the final leg 22-19.

A six in the final leg from Chris Webb (5-3-6) sealed a dramatic 2-1 win for Six Bells B Quarry at home to Original Swan A in Section 4.

Swan went ahead 16-15, but Bells levelled on three sticks after the second leg finished 15-15.

The visitors set 15 in the decider and Webb claimed a maximum to win it by a single doll.

Kevin Masterson (4-5-5) starred for Vikings A as they came away from New Club B with maximum points, winning 15-14, 19-15, 16-14.

Jason Harris (2-4-6) starred as Ampleforth Arms B stayed top of Section 7 with a 15-11, 15-13, 21-8 win over Red Lion Old Marston.
