ALCHESTER chairman Chris Kimber has welcomed a Rugby Football Union (RFU) Better Facilities Grant to improve their Fritwell base.

Their ‘Lead Up & Legacy Pitch Maintenance Award’ grant is part of the RFU’s £10m grass roots investment ahead of the 2015 World Cup.

Kimber said: “We are delighted that our project has been chosen as a recipient for a Better Facilities Grant.

“We will now have some of the best facilities in the area that local people from Bicester, Fritwell and surrounding villages can use during the week.”

RFU area facilities manager Jason Bowers said: “This investment will also support the club’s financial sustainability leading into the Rugby World Cup and will create a focus for England 2015 and a lasting legacy for rugby in the community.

“The new tractor and mowers will help the club raise its profile and encourage more players, volunteers and spectators to share the special values that distinguish the sport.”

“This investment by the RFU is excellent news,” said Alex Steer, Fritwell Village Hall chairman and playing field committee member.

“Alchester Rugby Club has had an enthusiastic group of volunteers.

“This funding will enable them to do even more for young people in the community in the future.”
