A number of under 13 youngsters made their mark at the higher level as Oxfordshire under 15 girls beat Leicestershire by four wickets at Barrow Town in their Group 2 encounter.

Having won the toss Oxfordshire elected to field.

Deanna Stamp, an under 13 left arm seamer, bowled superbly in an opening burst that brought her three wickets. From the other end, Riannon Brown bowled well without luck.

A change of bowler brought more rewards as another under 13, Jacqui Mayho, recorded figures of 4-2-4-2.

Leicestershire were finding the Oxon attack difficult to play and captain for the day, Rowan White, wrapped up the innings by clean bowling the last three batsmen for just one run.

Leicestershire were all out for just 58 in one ball short of 20 overs.

Leicestershire opened their bowling with captain Lucy Higham, and her slow off-spin accounted for three wickets for just 17 runs.

The Oxon girls continued to bat carefully, reaching 40-3 by drinks.

Rain took the players off for 30 minutes but the target and overs remained unchanged.

Lizzie Robbins was bowled soon after the restart with the score on 41 for 4.

After an innings that had lasted 46 balls and realised ten important runs, Riannon Brown was well caught by Lucy Higham.

The two Charlottes, Leach and Hayes, then came together and moved the score to 58 when confusion over a no-ball call left Leach facing another delivery and getting bowled.

However, Hayes stroked the winning run off the next over.

The girls are set for a return fixture with Warwickshire tomorrow followed by the re-match with Leicestershire at Didcot on Friday.
