SECTION 2 leaders Marlborough Club tasted defeat for the first time this season in the Greene King ODDA Summer League as they crashed 7-2 at second-placed Rose Hill Community Centre.

The home side made a brilliant start as Dave Witherwick, Jason Taylor (180), Ray Pape and Georgie Grant put them 4-0 up, Grant hitting two maximums as he notched his 23rd consecutive league win.

Marlborough gave them selves hope as Roger Crook and Steve Blake hit back to capture the last two singles, but a 3-0 pairs success wrapped it up for Rose Hill, who move to within a point of the leaders.

Third-placed Ampleforth Arms B lost ground on the leading two as they succumbed to a 6-3 defeat at home to Corner House B.

Mark Kerry, Richard Reveley, Trevor Ballard and Mick Kennett won their singles for the visitors.

Donnington CC made a promising start at George Bar A when Dave Swanton (180) and Mark Worrall put them 2-0 up.

However, the George rallied as Darren Hughes, Barry Wells, Andy Buckingham and Wayne Stevens made it 4-2, and a 2-0 pairs success completed the turnaround.

Section 3’s top-of-the-table clash brought together leaders Vikings and second-placed Marsh Harrier.

Kevin Masterson gave visitors Vikings an early lead against John Dineen, the home side levelling, thanks to Steve James’s win over Gavin Stubbs.

Chris Pollard got the better of Chris Kearney to restore Vikings’ lead, only for Tony Sawyer to square it up again with victory over Sean Stratford, despite the latter’s maximum.

Vikings then took control with John Merritt and Sean Pollard, plus a 3-0 pairs win, sealing a 7-2 success which leaves them 12 points ahead of the Harrier having played one game more.

King’s Arms consolidated their position at the top of Section 5 after seeing off visitors George Bar C.

Martin Parsons, Pete Will-iams, Jake McConway, Michael Croft, Steve McCon-way and Gerry McGrath put them 6-0 clear before the George gained some consolation by winning the pairs 2-1.

Quarry Gate have a 15-point lead at the top of Section 6 after a 5-4 win at Masons B, while Cowley Con Club’s 6-3 victory at Northway CC keeps them five points clear in Section 7.

* Premier champions Florence Park Community Centre A Ladies lost their unbeaten record when they went down 6-3 at home to arch rivals Nuffield Bar at Rileys.

Singles wins from Paulette Guy (pictured), Denise Pape and Pat Newman, plus a 2-1 pairs success, narrowed the gap at the top. Nuffield will continue to use Rileys for home matches due to internal changes at the pub. Section 1 leaders Donnington Community Centre A crashed to a 7-2 defeat at Premier side Gillan’s Bar, but still hold a four-point lead at the top.
