Lawrence Clarke is relishing competing in the Olympic Stadium today – a year since his incredible fourth place at London 2012.

The 23-year-old, from Christmas Common, can be sure of home support when he lines up in the 110m hurdles heats at 2.22pm.

And while injury problems mean Clarke is not expecting too much in the Diamond League meeting, he is delighted to be back where he enjoyed the biggest moment of his young career.

“I think it is a sell-out and the atmosphere will be quite amazing,” said Clarke.

“It is one year since the Olympics and the event is very much in the public psyche at the moment.

“It is so good that they have put the event on there. It means so much to all the athletes.

“It is like a mini-Olympic Games in two days.”

Clarke held his nerve superbly to finish fourth at London 2012 after running a personal best 13.31secs in the semi-final.

Since then he has suffered a broken wrist and a torn hamstring, which meant he was not in good enough shape to qualify for next month’s World Championships.

But Clarke hopes to rise to the occasion when he races Orlando Ortega, David Oliver and Ryan Wilson, who have all broken 13.10 this season.

“I don’t know what to expect,” he said. “I am still on the road to recovery rather than expecting a great performance.

“I am going to try and make the most of racing so many big names.”
