A BATTLING display was not enough as Charlbury fell to an 82-run defeat at ECB Women’s Midlands League Division 1 East leaders Lutterworth.

The Leicestershire side powered to 239-4 from their 45 overs, with opener Jodie Masser hitting 98.

Captain Nikisha Patel added 64, both falling to Ellie Norton, who finished with respectable figures of 2-22 from nine overs.

Abi Currie (39) and Suzy Halsey then got Charlbury’s reply off to a sound start with an opening stand of 45.

But the visitors could not keep up with the demanding run rate against some tight Lutterworth bowling, especially from Ceara Toal, who conceded just eight runs from six overs.

Carla Wood made a battling 39 not out and Abi Flory 26, but in the end Charlbury were restricted to 157-3.

Despite the defeat, Charlbury remain in third place in the league.

Moreton celebrated their first win in the Oxfordshire Midweek Women’s League with an eight-wicket victory over Wittenham.

Charlie Deeley starred with 5-12 as Wittenham were bowled out for 75.

Moreton then knocked the runs off swiftly in 11.2 overs, Judith Jackson top-scoring with an unbeaten 19.
