Oxfordshire's ladies bounced back to Aegon Summer County Cup Division 6 at the first attempt after finishing second in Divsion 7 at Felixstowe.

The crucial match saw Oxon defeat South of Scotland 8-1 to secure the runners-up spot.

Oxfordshire were relegated to county tennis’ bottom tier last year after a slide down the divisions, but captain Emma Tolson believes they have now turned a corner.

“I am so proud of everyone,” she said. “At long last we are on the up.”

Oxfordshire’s men could join the ladies in securing promotion if they beat Northumberland in Division 6 at North Oxford today.

Victories over Northamptonshire (6-3), Staffordshire (5-4) and Devon (7-2) plus a 7-2 defeat to Buckinghamshire mean that Oxfordshire can finish in the top two if results go their way on the final day.

Oxfordshire's girls showed promise in their Aegon Under 9 County Cup Group H matches at Goslings Park in Hertfordshire.

Although Oxon finished fourth out of five teams, their female players shone in most matches.

Oxfordshire’s only victory came with a 10-8 success against Buckinghamshire, their girls winning all three singles rubbers.

It went down to the mixed doubles where Zach Lion-Cachet and Matilda Mutavdzic sealed the spoils.

Chloe Elliott and Mutavdzic won their girls’ singles matches in a 14-4 defeat by Hertfordshire, but Oxon lost 18-0 to eventual winners Middlesex.

Three more girls’ singles victories could not prevent Oxfordshire losing 12-6 to Berkshire.
