OXFORD United’s young players will not be allowed to forget their stunning 5-1 mauling at Oxford City on Tuesday night – because the pre-season friendly was being filmed.

United’s side, which included 90-minutes performances from striker James Constable and young keeper Max Crocombe, plus several other potential first-teamers, would love to erase their display from their memories.

But there is no chance of that happening for the moment.

The visitors recorded the game and will show the players what went wrong.

U’s assistant manager Mickey Lewis said: “They have to realise that as professionals coming from academy football, you have to do your job properly and defend.

“That’s all over the park and you have to defend as a team.

“We deliberately came and filmed the game.

“Those young boys will be watching it. That’s not meant as a punishment, it’s a learning curve.”

Meanwhile, City boss Mike Ford expects striker Albi Skendi to seal his return to Marsh Lane, with the paperwork set to be completed tonight.

Skendi scored twice against United and set up another goal.

The 20-year-old left City for Banbury United last November and was still playing for the Calor League Premier Division side last week, netting four in their 6-1 win over Lichfield.

Now he will be part of City’s squad for the new Conference North season, which begins on August 17.

Ford said: “Albi was with me in our promotion season and was with me this time last year. He went off to Banbury and has grown up a little bit.

“I’ve spoken to him a number of times and basically said to him ‘you need to make your mind up, because I can’t keep coming back to you’.

“He’s very raw and is a young lad, but he did a really good job against United. With him in my team this season we’re going to score more goals.

“He’s agreed – he just has to put his name on a registration form.

“We’ve shaken hands on it. As far as I’m concerned, he’s our player.”

City’s next pre-season game is tomorrow night, when they host Wycombe Wanderers (7.30), while Coventry City visit the Kassam Stadium on Saturday (3).
