OXFORDSHIRE are top of ECB Women’s Performance Group 2 after beating Buckinghamshire by two runs in a thriller which went down to the final ball at Banbury.
Oxon hit 148-5 from their 35 overs and looked to be cruising when Bucks lost their ninth wicket with just 91 runs on the board.
But Amelia Barclay and Tanya Hassan set up a nail-biting finish as the visitors finally fell to 146 all out.
Lucy Thomas and Charlotte Hayes each hit 34 for Oxon.
Leg-spinner Mara Smith took 5-14 and left Bucks reeling at 91-9.
But Hassan and Barclay put on 55 in just nine overs to leave Bucks needing four off the final ball.
However, they could only scrape a rushed single from Jacqui Mayho’s delivery before being run out.
