LUKE McCormick says he will not forget Oxford United’s bravery for helping to rebuild his career last season.

The goalkeeper played 15 games in his first spell in the Football League after serving more than three years in prison for causing the death of two children by dangerous driving.

McCormick’s move in January was hugely controversial with some supporters, but on the pitch he proved a solid signing before being released at the end of the campaign.

The 29-year-old, who rejoined Plymouth Argyle this summer, has thanked the U’s for the opportunity and admitted he was hoping to stay.

“Oxford were brave enough to take a chance on me. I have got a lot to thank (manager) Chris Wilder and (chairman) Ian Lenagan for,” McCormick told the Plymouth Herald.

“I was disappointed to leave. I had hoped throughout my time at Oxford that there would be a new contract for me, but it wasn’t to be.

“I will always have a lot of fondness for Oxford United.”
