Oxfordshire’s Matilda Mutavzdic won the Penny & Sinclair Championships.
The Grade 3 regional event attracted top players to Oxon from all over the country. But it was Oxford’s Mutavzdic, the No 4 seed, who triumphed in the under nine event, defeating third seed Lucy Webber 7-4, 8-6 in the final.
The Oxfordshire County Closed tournament comes to a conclusion this weekend at Abingdon’s White Horse Leisure & Tennis Centre.
In the men’s event, 26 entrants are now down to the semi-final stage where Robert Gosling (Woodstock) plays reigning champion, Tom Bowden, (North Oxford).
Chris Gregory (Witney) takes on Sam Murrell (Portcullis) in the other last-four clash.
Virgin Active defeated North Oxford 3-1 to leap to the top of Mixed Division 1 in the Oxfordshire LTA Wilson League.
Banbury added to Oxford City’s relegation fears with a 4-0 victory in their clash.
North Oxford B and Benson share top spot in Division 2, both earning 3-1 wins against Wantage and Bicester respectively.
