OXFORD United's supporters have launched a campaign to buy Dave Langan's medals.

Financial difficulties have forced the former Republic of Ireland international, who played in United's successful sides during the mid-1980s, to put his Milk Cup and Division Two-winners medals up for sale.

Langan, 56, has suffered health problems following an injury-hit playing career and wants to raise £5,000 to help buy a mobile home to live in with his wife.

United's supporter groups, who this week came together under the Yellow Army banner, are calling on fans to donate.

Mark Sennett, chairman of supporters' trust OxVox, said: "We want to raise at least £5,000, but we hope to raise even more.

"Your generosity will not only provide Dave with vital funds for a new home, but also allow him and all of you to enjoy his medals forever when they go on proud display at the club."

Langan said: "I’d just like to say thanks to OxVox and the club for getting behind this initiative.

"It’s given me a huge lift as things are a bit difficult for us at the moment."

Fans have two months to hit the target, or the medals will be put up for auction.

Donations can be made online via OxVox's PayPal account, or cheques payable to OxVox can be sent to Dave Langan Fund, 41 Henley Road, Sandford-on-Thames, Oxford, OX4 4YW.
