Cup matches took centre stage in the Greene King ODDA Summer League last week with the chance of some giant-killings in the Seven-a-side Cup.

Section 3 outfit Bullnose Morris were at home to New Club, from Section 7, and were in no mood to become victims as they got off to a flying start with victories from Bryan Clarke, Graham Clarke and Mark Wheeler.

The visitors pulled one back through Malcom Paxford, before Bullnose made sure of their place in the next round as Gary Goodall and Gary Shorter sealed a 5-1 victory.

New Club’s Bernie Newman gained some consolation by capturing the final game from Ian McMurther.

Ampleforth B pipped Donnington Community Centre 4-3, Rileys SC A triumphed 5-2 at Quarry Gate, East Oxford Con Club matched that scoreline at Black Bull, Corner House B whitewashed visiting Headington BL 7-0 and Catherine Wheel B edged out Cowley Con Club 4-3.

In the ladies’ competition, just two matches were played, Premier side Gillans Bar showing their class when they visited Corner House (Section 3) by winning 7-0.

Section 1’s Donnington Community Centre A were 4-3 winners away to Gladiators SC from Section 2.

First blood went to the visitors, when Donna Baldwin defeated Lorraine Hartigan, the home side levelling after Celia Price got the better of Tracy Trinder.

Donnington edged ahead through Ann Marks, who beat Bernice Boyce, but Gladiators made it 2-2 with a fine victory from Jane Casey over Eileen White.

The Section 1 side then sealed their place in the next round as Emma Elliott and captain Ann Ranger both won.

Gladiators’ Linda Gleeson defeated Emily Baldwin in the final game of the night.
