OXFORD RL had no answer to a rampant Oldham side, going down to a 22-4 defeat in the Kingstone Press Championship One at Iffley Road.

The result saw the visitors continue their impressive run with a fourth successive victory.

But defeat saw Oxford drop to sixth in the table.

The home side made a great start when straight from the kick-off, Oldham dropped the ball.

From the resulting scrum, play was patiently worked through the hands for Lucas Onyango to score on his return to the side.

Jonny Leather missed the conversion.

However, little did Oxford know that it was as good as it was going to get.

The home side were dealt a blow on 14 minutes when Lucas Onyango went off the field with a nasty-looking injury after falling awkwardly in a collision. The visitors immediately got right back in the game.

A kick by Brett Robinson deep into Oldham’s half was picked up by Dave Cookson, who beat two men to sprint down the wing and then passed for Jon Ford to score under the posts.

Lewis Palfrey added the extras to take Oldham into a 6-4 lead. Oxford were conceding a number of penalties and following a high shot from Brett Robinson, Nathan Mason scored.

Palfrey added the extra two points to make it 12-4 to the visitors on 25 minutes. Neither side could add to their total in the first half, but it was Oldham who started the second period quicker.

Adam Files drove over soon after the restart, and although Palfrey missed the conversion, Oxford were 16-4 down.

Andrew Bentley saw yellow following a high shot on his opposite number and although the home side defended strongly with 12 men, they were undone when Kenny Hughes dived over.

Palfrey added the extras to make it 22-4. The home side continued to press and try to get back into the game, but Oldham defended strongly and Oxford were unable to get the losing bonus point.
