Oxford University wrapped up victory by an innings and 186 runs in the Varsity Match at Fenner’s yesterday.

Following on 431 runs behind, Cambridge University were bowled out for 245 in their second innings.

Tom Elliott top-scored with 101 and Philip Hughes hit 92, but the hosts were well beaten as Johny Marsden, Tom Williams and Sachin Mylavarapu took three wickets apiece.

Oxford’s Sam Cato injured a finger fielding the first ball of his spell, so Mylavarapu completed his over.

Meanwhile, Australia captain Michael Clarke scored his first century of the summer as the tourists dominated the third day of their Ashes warm-up at Worcestershire.

Clarke scored 124 from just 98 balls as his side made 345-5 dec. At the close, Worcestershire were 64-1, still 393 runs behind.
