Linsey Smith will make history tomorrow when she plays in Aston Rowant’s Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League Division 2 West match at home to Cove.

The 18-year-old left arm seamer, who is part of the England junior women’s set up, is believed to be the first female cricketer to appear in the Home Counties Premier League.

“Linsey has been a bit unlucky not to play earlier this year,” said Rowant captain Wesley Morrick.

“She has been a bit injury prone. She played in a pre-season match against Burnham and got a few wickets there.

“She is a quality player and has worked hard enough to deserve her chance “These are exciting times for us.”

Smith, Damian Shirazi and Nick Ferraby come into the side, with Tom Condon, Leigh Lewis and Tom Needham missing out.

League chairman Raymond Wood said: “It is pretty unusual. I am not aware of any other women playing in our Premier League.”

Morrick added: “We have got a lot of good youngsters who are looking to put themselves in the shop window and Linsey is one of them.

“It is always interesting to see how guys play against her.”

Josh Garrett and Robbie Catling replace unavailable duo Ian Bryan and Ed Gross for Great & Little Tew’s trip to leaders Gerrards Cross.

“We are only four points off the lead,” said skipper Andy Harris.

“We are not going to change anything because we are doing quite well the way we are.

“The objective still is to make sure we stay in this division, but if we play like we can, then it should be a competitive match.”

Tim Sutton, who shone with 71 not out on his Oxford debut, misses their trip to Dinton.

Sutton had already committed to playing for St Edward’s Martyrs in their 150th anniversary match, so John Barrett, Ian Evans or Tom Geeson-Brown will replace him.

Oxford skipper Ian Crosby added: “Stuart Hole has a hamstring niggle. Hopefully, he will be fit enough to bowl this week.

“We were unlucky not to beat Aston Rowant last week. Hopefully, we can get over the line against Dinton.”

Jonny Cater replaces Eddie Phillips for Banbury’s Division 1 trip to High Wycombe and captain Jimmy Phillips wants his side to kick on.

“We have certainly got enough good players to win games of cricket,” he said.

“We just need to execute our plans and perform under pressure.”
