OXFORD United are believed to be closing in on signing left back Tom Newey.
The 30-year-old is understood to have been on trial in pre-season and could complete a move in time to play in the first friendly, at Ardley United on Saturday.
Newey made 49 appearances for Scunthorpe United last season and despite winning three prizes at their awards, the former Leeds United trainee was released at the end of the campaign.
One deal to go through yesterday saw former U’s striker Matt Green join Birmingham City.
The 26-year-old signed a two year contract with the Championship club after hitting 56 goals in two seasons at Mansfield Town.
He could face United later this month, with the Blues visiting the Kassam Stadium for a friendly on July 20.
