TOM Fleming will have to wait another year to compete in the Open Championship after missing out by three strokes yesterday in the final local qualifying round for this month’s event at Muirfield.
The Frilford Heath assistant professional shot rounds of 71 and 69 for a two-under-par total of 140 at North Berwick to come joint ninth in a field of 72.
But only three players, with scores of 137 or better, made it through to the coveted major.
Sonning professional Clive Bowler, the former Oxford City member who lives in Didcot, and Chipping Norton’s Danny Phillips also failed to qualify.
