James Cunningham and Jordan Garrett hit half-centuries as Oxfordshire beat Worcestershire by four runs in the ECB Under 14 County Cup at Sandford St Martin.

After losing the toss and being inserted, Oxon made 203-7 with Cunningham (59no) and opener Garrett (55) leading the way in the Group 2 clash.

Tom Bishop (35) provided good support in the middle order.

Zachery Smith (47) and Fergus Cameron (44) kept Worcestershire in the hunt, and they arrived at the last over needing seven to win with three wickets in hand.

Jonty Robinson took a wicket with his first ball and then a couple of singles left the visitors needing five to win off the last ball.

But Shameer Ahmed skied the ball, and Robinson took the catch off his own bowling to leave Oxon narrow winners for their first win of the season.

OXFORDSHIRE Under 13s slipped to a 17-run defeat against Northants in a friendly at Marston St Lawrence.

James Curtis (3-6) and Archie Spittles (3-30) shone as Northants were held to 156-9 off their 40 overs after winning the toss and deciding to bat.

Charlie Miller made 43 in Oxon’s reply, but they fell short on 139-7.

OXFORDSHIRE Under 11s fell to a 29-run defeat against Bucks in a friendly at Burnham.

Bucks made 167-8 after being put in to bat by Oxon, with Angus Creighton (38) the mainstay of the innings as Harry Startin (2-22) and Michael Denvir (2-26) the chief wicket-takers.

Oxon were then bowled out for 138, with Max Ritchie (4-17) the chief destroyer as David White (25) top-scored before being run out.
