Oxford Academy gained their first county triumph by twice coming from behind to beat Lord Williams’s (Thame) 4-2 in the Oxfordshire Under 12 Cup final at Thame United.

Lord Williams’s opened the scoring with a 25-yard free kick, only for Oxford to level when Heath Pitson finished off Elliott Howells’s cross.

An own goal saw the Thame lads lead for a second time at half-time. But Oxford stepped up a gear after the break, and Twariq Yusuf whipped in a corner for Howells to finish into the top of the net.

The Academy went ahead when Jamie McSporran smashed home a penalty awarded for handball, and Cian Gaul sealed victory when he ran on to Kyran Lofthouse’s superb pass to slide the ball into the net.

Meanwhile, Oxford Academy triumphed in a sudden death penalty shoot-out in the South East Futsal Under 12 Competition at The University of Surrey in Guildford to book their place in the national finals.

Kyran Lofthouse twice gave Oxford the lead in the final against Hampton, who equalised for the second time in the last minute.

With the shoot-out all square after six spot-kicks, Matty Simms saved Hampton’s seventh effort, before stepping up to blast home the winning penalty.

It gave Oxford, winners of the Oxfordshire Futsal Competition, sweet revenge after they had suffered their only defeat in the group stage against Hampton.

They won four of their five other matches and also had a draw to reach the final as group runners-up, with Lofthouse scoring five goals and Tom Griffiths four.

Now they go forward to the finals at the National Futsal Centre in Birmingham on Saturday, June 29.
