The Exiles’ head coach has been impressed by the support for his club at Oxford’s Kassam Stadium and how they have been received in the city.
Welsh host Worcester Warriors today in their final match of the Aviva Premiership season looking to end on a high note.
While relegation makes it unlikely they will be able to stay at the Kassam Stadium, Welsh are considering other options in the city, such as playing at Oxford University’s Iffley Road.
“I am surprised how much support we have had from Oxford,” said Jones.
“It would be an absolute tragedy if we are not able to return somewhere in Oxford next year to carry on the development of professional rugby in the area.
“We want to give supporters more and more exciting matches.
“The potential in Oxford is huge.
“For me, I have realised this year how important an academy is for a rugby club.
“There are a lot of good young rugby players in Oxford who that would be ideal for.”
