THAME United boss Mark West says his side will have “a real go” when they face Oxford City in tonight’s Oxfordshire Senior Cup semi-final clash at their ASM Stadium.
The Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division side reached the semi-finals with a shock 2-1 win at Southern League North Leigh.
But West says it will be a tough task to repeat the feat against the Blue Square Bet North outfit and set up a final with Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium.
“They are three leagues above us and they deserve to be there,” commented West.
“So it’s going to be a really tough ask for us, but we got to the semis last year and this year, so we are doing all right.
“If you look at the teams you would think an upset is not going to happen, but it’s possible – we’ll give it a real go.”
City boss Mike Ford says that his side’s fixture back-log means that he will need to shuffle his pack and give some fringe players the chance to impress.
“It’s a difficult one because we have such a lot of games coming up,” he said.
“I’ve got lads keen to prove a point so the ones that come in should be desperate to say to me ‘we’ve lost our last three games, so change the team and pick me’.”
