Oxford City manager Mike Ford believes his side looked like a team which hadn’t played in four weeks after their 2-1 home defeat to Solihull Moors in Blue Square Bet North on Saturday.

City were outfought in the first half of the game and found themselves 2-0 down at the break but looked far stronger in the second half.

Ford said: “I don’t know whether we needed the 45 minutes to get rid of the cobwebs, but that’s how it seemed because in the second half we totally dominated.

“We hit the post, their keeper’s making saves, we’ve got free-kicks and corners, but we couldn’t quite get the second one.”

But Ford admitted that although he was encouraged by City’s second-half performance it is the result which matters and his main priority now is ensuring his side can get enough points on the board in the final month of the season.

“Everyone keeps saying it’s nice to have a game – yeah it’s nice to have a game, but we haven’t won it,” he added.

“Full credit to them, they played the game and they played it better than us.”
