Oxford City Stars will bid to continue their fine form when they travel to Basingstoke Buffalo in English National League South Division tomorrow.

Stars have been steadily climbing the table in recent weeks, and have won their last two matches.

But tomorrow's clash in Hampshire could be a lively encounter, as there is a certain amount of history between the two teams.

Two years ago, there were various incidents in a fiery clash at Oxpens Road, which led to blood being spilled on the ice as Stars ran out 5-3 victors.

Stars would have been on equal points with Buffalo, had they won their home match with Lee Valley Lions a few weeks ago, but will find their hosts a tough prospect.

Buffalo boast a tight defence with good man-to-man marking, but Oxford's weapon is the ability to play at a fast tempo, particularly in the forward line.

If Lukas Szabo's international clearance comes through, it will give Stars the edge as they eye a top-four finish.

Coach Darryl Morvan is hoping that his team's recent improved form will continue.

He said: "The last two weeks have seen us beginning to fulfil our potential, with us playing a fast game, and our success coming from our ability and willingness to move the puck quickly.

"Basingstoke are capable opponents, who are worthy of their place in the table.

"But we are nipping at their heels, and the game against them will give us a good measure of our progress in the last few weeks."

Stars are almost at full strength, although they have been left frustrated at the length of time it has taken to obtain's Szabo's papers.

Captain Darren Elliott added: "The game against Basingstoke will be a tough one, but I feel that each week we are growing as a team and improving all the time."
