NEIL Briggs is urging London Welsh fans to turn out in force for Sunday’s crunch Aviva Premiership clash at home to Sale Sharks.

Basement boys Sale visit Oxford’s Kassam Stadium just six points behind tenth-placed Welsh.

Sale’s improved form means hooker Briggs, who spent eight years at the Sharks, knows the Exiles face a huge test.

And the 27-year-old says Welsh would love to play in front of a big home crowd again.

“The more people there the better,” said Briggs.

“When we had 10,000 people for the Wasps game, it made a massive difference.

“It would be great to get as many as possible down on Sunday.”

He joked: “I have heard that Lyn Jones (coach) is going to wrestle a bear at half-time.

“That should put a few on the gate!”

Briggs, 27, joined Welsh from French club Bourgoin last summer and has been one of their stand-out players, often switching to openside flanker late in matches.

“Coming up against Sale on the back of their last three wins is going to be very tough,” he said.

“You look at the league table and people can make what they want out of it.

“It is another game, but it is just one that everybody is interested in. We are going to give it our best shot – as we have done all season.

“But we also know we have seven games after this one.

“If we pick up another three or four wins, then everything will be fine.”

Fans buying a ticket to the game will help Comic Relief, with £1 from each ticket going to Red Nose Day. Donations can be made by texting NOSE99 £5 to 70070 or change the amount to give more. Alternatively, visit www.justgiving.com/premiershiprugby2013
