SCHOOLS FOOTBALL

OXFORD & Cherwell Valley College’s terrific run in the ESFA Under 18 Colleges Trophy came to an end with a 3-2 defeat at Hopwood Hall College (Rochdale) in the quarter-final.

Luke Heron opened the scoring for the hosts, but Oxford hit back with Shavaughan Scott equalising before half-time.

Liam Ellis restored Hopwood’s advantage in the second half, only for Scott to level again.

However, Ellis’s second five minutes from time ended Oxford’s hopes.

Cokethorpe (Witney) also saw their adventure in the ESFA Under 14 Small Schools’ Trophy halted with a 1-0 defeat by Broadlands Academy (Keynsham) in the quarter-finals at Keynsham Town.
