The future of champion trainer, Angie Kibble, is still up in the air.

Ten of the 12 handlers based at Sandy Lane have found new tracks following the decision to close Oxford Stadium at the end of the month.

But incredibly, Kibble is one of the two who, at present, has nowhere to go.

Kibble and Gilly Hepden were both hoping to be given the all-clear to move to Swindon.

However, the Wiltshire track’s trainers lodged objections to two new faces coming in.

And as a result, only Hepden has been accepted, which leaves Kibble with a real problem.

The Bampton-based trainer, upset by the news, did not want to comment until she was clearer what the future may have in store for her.

But with spaces at other tracks filling up fast, her options are severly limited – not least with local owners not wanting to travel too far to see their dogs run.

Paul Clarke is the other trainer yet to find a track for next year.

As well as Hepden joining Swindon, Terry Kibble, Bob Hannan and Maurice Massey are moving to Perry Barr.

Richard Baker and Steve Rayner switch to Hall Green, both GRA tracks, with Nick Carter and Richard Yeates moving to Henlow.

Dave Lee joins Sittingbourne and Ron Bicknell goes to Wimbledon.

Understandably, it’s all doom and gloom at Sandy Lane at present.

And the removal of the BAGS meetings for the rest of the year, which was announced on Monday, comes as a real slap in the face for management.

Issues over getting last Friday’s BAGS card on appear to have been the final straw.

The track was frozen solid after a very cold Thursday night.

But with the horse racing at Musselburgh postponed due to the elements, BAGS chiefs were insistent that the Oxford meeting should go ahead.

It is very unusual for the track not to be salted when a heavy frost is forecast, but I gather track staff were on days-off – and who can blame them for using their holiday entitlement up – and so it was left to the elements.

The meeting, which was due to start at 11.03am, did not get under way until around 1pm.

It could be, that in the circumstances, BAGS were taking no chances for the rest of the year.

Belle Vue will take on the Sunday slot, while the Friday meetings go to Kinsley, in Ponterfract.

Oxford’s racing manager, Gary Baiden, commented: “It’s normal practice for BAGS to cancel their contracts when a track is closing down, so it was going to happen anyway.”

It means that there are now a maximum of eight more meetings to be held at Oxford Stadium before the doors shut for good.
