RUGBY UNION: Fringe players get chance to shine
10:10am Friday 7th December 2012 in Sport
Lyn Jones has challenged London Welsh’s fringe players to stake their claim for first-team spots in their Aviva Challenge Cup Pool 5 clash in Grenoble.
The Exiles’ head coach makes 14 changes from the side that defeated London Irish 15-9 at the Kassam Stadium last Saturday for tonight’s game.
Full back Tom Arscott is the only player to retain his starting place.
The Aviva Premiership’s new boys lost 68-19 to Stade Francais in round one, before beating Italian side Cavalieri Prato 32-31.
“We’re still in the competition and this is a great opportunity for several players to stake their claim,” said Jones.
“Every game is important to us and we want to win every single match.”
Welsh back row Daniel Browne has had two spells with Grenoble, and last season helped the club gain promotion to the Top 14.
London Welsh: Arscott, MacKenzie*, Lewis, Jewell, Smith, Davies, Runciman, Bristow, Bateman, Joly, Brown, Corker, Beach, Hills, To’oala*. Reps: Hafu, Moss, Tideswell, Mills, Denbee, Keyte, Whatling, Scott. *Denotes full international.
