Berinsfield moved to within three points of Johnsons Buildbase Oxford League Section 1 leaders Democrats with a game in hand after winning two crucial points at Premier side Vikings.

Bob Allsworth won first for the home side, beating Tony Broadway 5,920-1,720 before John Boal made it 1-1, defeating Allan Lacey 3,790-3,350.

Vikings’ Ian Moss clawed his way back to beat Geoff Mace 7,280-6,100 and Alan Oliver (7,280) kept his unbeaten run going to make it it 3-1, before Phil McFarland recorded 5,560 against Lewis Stratford to clinch Berinsfield’s second point.

Masons A won 3-2 at home to Didcot Conservative Club, Dave Rose top-scoring with 7,210, while Masons B lost 3-2 at Comrades.

Martin Skyrme and Chris Webb (6,180) won for Masons, while Sean Stratford (4,500), Simon Ellam (4,710) and Chris Storch (6,430) picked up Comrades’ points.

Headington Conservative Club closed the gap to three points on Section 2 leaders Gladiators A, who were on a free week after winning 3-2 away at Marlborough Club.

Gladiators B triumphed 4-1 away at Dolphin.

Grant Johnson, Neil Cunliffe, Jenny Webb and Reg Johnson won, with Melissa Standbridge saving the whitewash.
