FOOTBALL: We got away with it, admits Ford
10:00am Monday 3rd December 2012 in Sport
Oxford City manager Mike Ford admitted that his side were lucky to take a point from struggling Droylsden in Saturday’s 2-2 draw.
The match was City’s first for a fortnight after last weekend’s FA Trophy tie against Bishop’s Stortford fell victim to the weather, and Ford said this may have had an impact on their performance.
“We did look rusty today,” said Ford. “We’ve looked like a team that hasn’t done much in recent weeks and we need to be better.”
But the boss was quick to praise his side’s character after their response to falling behind late in the game.
He added: “They had the ball in from a corner and then the right back smashes a worldy in and I think at that point a lot of teams might have just caved in and gone under.
“But full credit to my players, they came back with an equaliser and even went looking to get a winner.
“I was just a bit mindful at the end that we were trying to win it and we could have ended up losing it.
“So we probably took the point with five or ten minutes to go.”
