SQUASH: Battling Oxon are runners-up

Oxfordshire finished second in the first Ladies Senior Inter-County weekend of the season at Abingdon.

Dealt a blow before the start when Rachel Donald fell ill with food poisoning, Oxon lost 3-0 to eventual winners Suffolk in the opening match.

However, 3-2 wins over Cambridgeshire and Middlesex saw them finish as runners-up.

Oxon squad: K Lancaster, K Scott, J Peachey, A Guerzoni, H Knowles, E Carr.

Standings: 1 Suffolk 50pts, 2 Oxfordshire 39, 3 Middlesex 31, 4 Cambridgeshire 22.

Oxford Health & Racquets jumped to second place in Division 1 of the Premier League after a 3-2 victory over MB Nottingham.

Madeline Perry was the match-winner, beating Emma Beddoes 11-5, 11-6, 11-6 in the deciding game to clinch victory.

Cameron Piley and Borja Golan had put Oxford 2-0 ahead.

But they needed Perry to earn the win after Scott Handley and Kristen Johnson had been beaten in their matches.
