ANGLING: Bradley proves a hit on the Wye

FARINGDON matchman Mike Bradley (Drennan Oxford) is celebrating successs on the River Wye.

Bradley, 59, who used to fish for the Turners of Faringdon and Isis Oxford teams, finished joint second in the 160-angler Wye Championships with 15 chub for 60.8.0, less than 3lb behind the winner.

He used waggler and maggot midstream and two of his chub were over 6lb.

Bradley also took part in the three-day Hereford AC Festival, winning day two with 34.10.0 of roach and dace on stick float and maggot.

Meanwhile, weights were low in the third round of the Angling Trust Oxford Winter League on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Avington.

After a heavy overnight frost, the skimmers and better roach did not feed and it was either the odd big perch or tiny roach for the five teams.

Sensas A4 anglers filled the top three spots, but the team honours went to Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths.

Colin Wainwright captured his second league win on the trot, catching four big perch on pole-fished lobworm from one of the feature pegs for a winning 7.3.0.

Kevin Holmes was second with 6.13.0 of big perch on pole and worm, followed by Steve Pawson with 6.4.0 of mainly perch on worm.

Littlemore AS fished their Sumner Cup at Pimlico Farm, where the 16 anglers returned a total of 94lb.

Brian Hutchings completed a hat-trick of wins with two big carp and a few roach on the long pole with maggot for 27.10.0.

John Davis had a big carp and some roach, also on the pole with maggot for a second-placed 12.3.0, while Steve Pope fished the waggler with maggot and had a tench, plus a good net of roach, for 12.1.0.
