RUGBY: Henson happy to bide his time
10:00am Thursday 15th November 2012 in Sport
Gavin Henson has not given up hope of returning to international rugby and believes London Welsh coach Lyn Jones is the man to get him back to his best.
The 30-year-old has been out of the Wales set-up since dislocating a wrist in a warm-up game to last year’s World Cup and was not included in the squad for this month’s autumn internationals.
Having won 33 caps, Henson is hopeful of earning a recall at some stage, but is focused on delivering consistently for London Welsh first.
“I just have to prove to myself I can play well every week. It’s coming, we’ll see how it pans out,” he said.
“I’d love to get the chance to be involved (with Wales) at some point, but for me I just need to play some regular rugby with London Welsh.
“I’m quite happy. I’d prefer my performances to be a lot better than they are, but it’s coming.”
Henson joined the Exiles this summer in a move which reunited him with head coach Lyn Jones, under whom he flourished during a spell at Ospreys.
The double Six Nations Grand Slam winner is enjoying working with Jones again and is particularly relishing the decision to play in his favoured position at fly half.
He said: “Lyn is a genius and knows the game inside out.
“I believe we work well together, so I appreciate the fact that he’s given me a chance at ten. I’m hoping to repay him.”
