WITNEY fell to an agonising 23-22 defeat at Swindon, who won it with a last-gasp penalty.

The visitors began well and led via a penalty from fly half Henry Lamb.

Captain Jez Hicks’s lineout steal then allowed prop Jamie Burke the chance to power over for a try, converted by Lamb.

Witney had their tails up and Lamb kicked through for flanker Carl Campbell to touch down a second try.

Swindon’s heavier pack began to cause problems and hit back with a converted try, followed by a penalty.

It was all Swindon in the second half and Witney struggled to get any possession.

The hosts bagged a try, but then had a player sent off for abusing the referee.

Witney were under real pressure and had Murton yellow-carded.

A penalty gave Swindon more hope, but Witney full back James Monks twice went close .

In the end, the visitors’ high penalty count cost them victory as Swindon struck again.
