A NUMBER of new restrictions will be placed on Witney’s roads as work continues to deliver 1,000 homes.

Oxfordshire County Council is now consulting on the plans, which come in response to development off Downs Road.

Part of the scheme will involve reducing the speed limits on Curbridge Road and Downs Road.

Both of the roads have a 60mph speed limit. The proposed changes would see them both turned into 40mph zones.

A 50mph zone would also be introduced on the A40 either side of the Downs Road over-bridge, which has a 70mph speed limit.

As well as changing speed limits, the council also wants to introduce a weight restriction to reduce the number of lorries using the B4047 and B4477.

The new order would prevent any vehicle over 7.5 tonnes from using them as through roads.

Heavier vehicles would still be able to use the roads for access.

Documents giving more details of the proposals are available online at consultations.oxfordshire.gov.uk.

Copies can also be viewed at the county council offices at County Hall in New Road, Oxford.

The 1,000-home development off Downs Road is being delivered by a consortium of developers.

One benefit to Witney will be the delivery of a new A40/Downs Road junction.
