A MAN has died after being hit by a car on a rural road in Oxfordshire in the early hours of Sunday morning. 

Police and paramedics attended the incident at 2.05am on the A424 between Burford and Fifield. 

Police officers said the 42-year-old man had been lying in the road and was then hit by a white BMW, with the driver stopping at the scene.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and officers are now working to locate the man's next of kin. No arrests have been made.

Investigating officer, Sergeant Gavin Collier, of the joint operations unit for roads policing, based at Bicester, said: "I am appealing for anyone who has any information which they think could relate to this incident to come forward.

"We are particularly interested in talking to anyone at all who travelled on the A424 at any point between Stow and Burford this morning between the hours of midnight and 2am.

"If you were driving on that road between these hours, please call the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number on 101."
