ONLOOKERS had to pull a dogwalker and his pet from a crash yesterday after Mercedes came off the road.

Thames Valley Police said they were called to Swan Lane, Long Hanborough, after a silver Mercedes collided with the pedestrian, a garden wall and lamp post.

TVP said the male driver, in his twenties, was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital and appears to have had a “medical episode whilst driving” but a full investigation will take place.

The pedestrian, a man in his forties, was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital with head and leg injuries.

Nearby resident Richard Corfield saw the crash and helped drag the pedestrian from the wreckage.

He said: “The silver Mercedes careered off the road, hit a lamp post, careered across the pavement and smashed into two walls hitting a pedestrian and his dog.

“I was helped getting the pedestrian to safety by two bin men, who deserve a big mention. The car could have gone up at any minute.

“I thought the car was about to explode and it was imperative to get the pedestrian and his dog away from the scene.”

According to Mr Corfield the Mercedes ended up lying on its driver's side, with the driver climbing out the passenger window.

Mr Corfield said he believed the pedestrian's dog was cared for by a resident surgeon at Medivet in Woodstock but later died.

Police said they were joined by both fire and ambulance services at the scene.
