AN ENTRY slip road on the M40 southbound has been closed due to flooding at junction 8 at Oxford.

The road is expected to be closed until tomorrow morning.  

A flood alert has been issued this evening for the River Thames and its tributaries from Buscot Wick, near Lechlade, to King's Lock, just above Oxford.

The alert, the first of the three stages of the agency's flood warning system, means that flooding of low-lying land and property is possible and people should take precautions.

Flood alerts are also in force tonight on the following Oxfordshire rivers and brooks:

  • River Cherwell from Lower Heyford to Oxford
  • River Cole and Dorcan Brook to Buscot Wick
  • River Evenlode from Moreton-in-Marsh to Cassington
  • River Glyme at Wootton and Woodstock
  • River Ock from Watchfield to Abingdon
  • River Ray from Shipton Lee to Islip
  • River Thame from Marsworth to Dorchester, including Thame, Shabbington, Ickford, Waterperry, Cuddesdon, Wheatley, Quarrendon, Drayton St Leonard, Overy
  • River Windrush from Bourton-on-the-Water to Newbridge, including Burford and Witney
  • Chalgrove Brook at Chalgrove and Stadhampton
  • Ginge Brook, from Steventon to Sutton Courtenay
  • Langford and Wendlebury Brooks from Stratton Audley to Merton
  • Letcombe Brook at Wantage, Grove and East Hanney
