Strong winds will lash Oxfordshire on Friday morning as the so-called weather "bomb" moves across the country.

The Met Office issued a yellow warning, meaning be prepared, for wind between 12.10am and 9am on Friday.

Gusts of up to 60mph could hit the county, and will be accompanied by heavy rain.

People are being warned there is risk of damage to trees, disruption to travel and possibly to power supplies.

The wild weather is due to a weather "bomb" - an intense low pressure system.

Accodring to the Met Office, a better description can be more directly linked to the meteorological phenomena known as rapid or explosive cyclogenesis.

This is where dry air from the stratosphere flows into an area of low pressure. This causes air within the depression to rise very quickly and increases its rotation, which in turn deepens the pressure and creates a more vigorous storm.
