Youngsters at St Barnabas’ Primary School in Jericho, Oxford, “let the music play” yesterday when a member of The Drifters dropped in.
They will join the soul legends at a July show in the city, and member Michael Williams, left, stopped by for a rehearsal while en route to a gig in Swindon. The 20 pupils ran through classics Stand By Me and Saturday Night At The Movies ahead of the Saturday, July 7, show at The New Theatre Year Six teacher Helen Manley said: “They really enjoyed it. We are very much looking forward to the concert.”
Mr Williams said: “The kids were fantastic. We always have young fans coming to see us, a lot of their mums and dads and grandparents are Drifters fans.”
The group formed in 1953 and won acclaim with their rhythm and blues and soul hits, and have carried on with an ever-changing line-up.
