A MAN who repeatedly had sex with a 14-year-old girl was given a 40-month jail sentence.

Jordan McDonagh, 21, who currently resides at HMP Bullingdon, appeared in Oxford Crown Court via video link on Tuesday facing charges of sexual activity with a child and attempted burglary.

His young victim wept in the courtroom as the prosecution revealed the relationship that had developed between the two earlier in the year.

McDonagh, who is believed to have lived in Oxford during the time of the offences, was also given time in prison for an unrelated attempted burglary which took place in Sutton Courtenay in August.

Michael Roques, prosecuting, said the victim's support workers first notified the girl's mother about a relationship between her and McDonagh in February.

The victim's mother urged McDonagh to stay away and he agreed.

She would later receive information indicating the relationship was ongoing, and discover McDonagh had blocked her on Facebook.

In April, the 14-year-old girl went missing, with her mum reporting it to the police fearing she was with McDonagh.

The victim was found a short while later near her home address and McDonagh was arrested and interviewed, providing no comment to any question asked.

The victim's underwear was taken for DNA analysis and traces of McDonagh's semen was found.

In July the girl's mother handed her daughter's phone to police. They discovered 106 messages from McDonagh, expressing his love and telling her they would live together.

In August the victim revealed there was a sexual relationship and the pair had had sex more than 50 times.

Judge Zoe Smith sentenced McDonagh to 32 months for the sexual activity and eight months for the attempted burglary.
