Oxford City Football Club managing director Colin Taylor was found hanged at the club's ground, an inquest heard.
The 62-year-old, who volunteered at the club for more than 20 years, was found dead at the Marsh Lane stadium shortly after 9am on Sunday July 17.
Coroner Darren Salter described it as a "sad and tragic" case before reflecting that the numerous tributes in the press showed Mr Taylor was a "much loved and respected man".
The inquest also heard there were no suspicious circumstances and that a paramedic from South Central Ambulance Service confirmed his death at 9.22am.
A full inquest will be held on November 2.
