ROVER 800 fanatics gathered at the Cowley Plant as they revved up support for an owners’ club for the car.
The Cowley-built vehicle does not yet have a club for enthusiasts but it is hoped one can be set up by 2016 in time for its 30th anniversary.
Dozens of people who are passionate about the 800 came to show off their cars and trade ideas for the owners’ club at the plant on Sunday.
The 800 was built from 1986-1998 and more than 300,000 – including the Sterling – rolled off the Cowley Plant production line.
Jago Stokes and his son Logan were among those who turned up for the event.
Mr Stokes, 32, said: “I have been part of the growing online forum for the car for quite a while and decided it was time to do something about it so I came down today.
“It has been quite good, it is all positive.
“Rover 800s are quite unique. Not many people have them and they do not make a song and dance about what they do, they just do it quite nicely.
“Hopefully we will have an owners’ club pretty soon and it will give people the chance to show their cars.
“It is now a classic vehicle and the following will eventually grow.”
