QUEUES of model hopefuls were carefully scrutinised by a panel of judges over the weekend, trying to find the best face for Oxford Fashion Week.

More than 100 people strutted their stuff at open castings between Saturday and Monday.

Now the final casting sessions have closed, judges will choose about 50 models to take part in Autumn/Winter runway shows on November 3 to 8.

The week comes after the Spring/Summer show, which was held in March.

Models will be featuring in shows wearing everything from high street clothes and couture fashion to lingerie.

Yesterday, organisers launched a competition to help the public choose the face of Oxford Fashion Week.

People can now vote for their favourite model on Facebook to choose who they want to represent the week-long fashion event.

Oxford Fashion Week director Carl Anglim said: “As the Face of Oxford Fashion Week 2010 and professional model herself, Tiffany Saunders, from Witney, will lead the decision in consultation with the directors.

“The public play a part in the decision-making process too. All those who casted will be featured on the Oxford Fashion Week Facebook page for a public vote.

“The results of the public vote will be one factor Tiffany will take into consideration when making the final decision.”

He said: “The Face of Oxford Fashion Week is the one person who caught our attention unlike any other this season.

“We will only feature outstanding models in our upcoming season. The Face is the one who brought something extraordinary to the casting and who will bring something uniquely defining to the week.”

Directors of Oxford Fashion Week have selected 10 models who are their favourites to win the Face of Oxford contest.

These are not the only models up for the public vote, but they have been labelled the “ones to watch” by director Carl Anglim and professional model Tiffany Saunders.

It is a case of brains and beauty for Somerville College medical student Sarah Billingsley.

The Cowley resident, 22, said: “I don’t have the time to do modelling much throughout the year so I thought this would be a good way to get involved.

“It’s nice for younger girls to see that they can have both: it doesn’t have to be just superficial or just academic.”

This is the second time Aisling Longshaw has been in the running for the Face of Oxford, after being shortlisted in March.

The 19-year-old from Princes Risborough said: “Last time was amazing, it was such a positive atmosphere and I met so many incredible contacts.

“It would mean the world to get the Face of Oxford, it would be a big confidence boost.”

Male model Adam Kashani, 20, is hoping to become Oxford Fashion Week’s first male Face of Oxford. The St John’s College psychology student said: “It’s definitely time for a boy to take the role.

“Men are really under-represented in fashion and we need to ramp it up.”

Danielle Yen travelled from London to take part in Oxford Fashion Week, hoping the city’s high-quality fashion will help her career.

The 24-year-old said: “I’m trying to do proper modelling work in England.

“I love doing fashion work and I came to Oxford because I really want to see different designers and collections. Of course, I also really want to see the city as well.”

Voting will close on Thursday, October 23 and the winner will be announced that evening.
