AFTER years of fundraising, a new community hall in West Oxfordshire will fully open this month.

Freeland Parish Council has been fundraising to build the facility, in Wroslyn Road, since 2009.

Phase one, the hall itself, was completed in September 2011 after a £500,000 fundraising effort and since then the community has been raising cash for the second phase, a £206,000 project which includes changing facilities for sports teams.

Work began on the second phase in January and it will be officially opened on September 21 by deputy Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, David Mason, whose father opened the old hall in 1965.

Parish council chairman Peter Newell said: “The project has brought the village together.”
