MORE than 100 classic cars will go under the hammer at Bicester’s former RAF base in an ‘Affordable Classics’ auction event.

The historic cars, from Jaguar Land Rover’s Classic Collection, will be open to bids with no reserves at the Bicester Heritage event – hosted by Brightwells.

The auctioneers joined Bicester Heritage in November 2016, as one of several businesses to set up a base on site of the former Second World War bomber station.

The auction will include more than 100 classic cars, alongside a collection of children’s pedal cars, boats, caravans and large-scale model aeroplanes.

Brightwells head of classic cars, Matthew Parkin, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been asked by Jaguar Land Rover Classic to auction off part of its significant Classic Collection.

“Focussing solely on non-Jaguar Land Rover products, the diversity of the lots on offer is extraordinary, offering everything from a Riva-style speedboat to the unique Scimitar Ferguson prototype – all at no reserve.

“It is safe to say it is going to be a lot of fun.”

Mr Parkin said the collection which will go under the hammer has ‘clearly been carefully curated’ with rare or low-mileage cult classics.

He added: “As the home of the classic car, Bicester Heritage is the ideal location for these rare models to find new homes, and we can’t wait to welcome enthusiasts on site.”

The collection includes a unique Reliant Scimitar prototype with Ferguson four-wheel drive, a 2300 HS Chevette for performance fans, or a 1960 Vauxhall Velox by Martin Walker.

Bicester Heritage managing director, Dan Geoghegan, said: “Bicester Heritage is all about the future of classic motoring and this landmark, no-reserve sale supports this vision perfectly.”

Aside from the Brightwells auction, a further 40 vehicles have been put forward by Jaguar Land Rover Classic on loan to Bicester Heritage-based charity Starter Motor.

The charity provides historic vehicles to help educate younger people on their use and maintenance and hopes to bridge the age gap between classic car enthusiasts.

The auction will be staged at Bicester Heritage on March 21 from midday to 4pm.
