It was a weekend of success for young Oxfordshire badminton players, with pride of place going to Amy Lawson, from Benson.

Lawson won a gold medal for girls doubles in a Badminton England under 17 silver graded tournament in Worcester on Sunday and also claimed a silver medal in the singles.

The previous day, Lawson had won a singles bronze medal in a similar tournament in Bedfordshire.

She was joined in the medal stakes there by Imogen Langford, of Harwell, who also collected a bronze.

Safia Khimji, of Didcot, won bronze and silver medals for singles and girls doubles at under 11 level.

Meanwhile, Joe Roberts, of Brize Norton, and Dan Blair, of Didcot, won bronzes in the boys doubles at the under 15 tournament in Warwick.

Nearer to home, James Currah, of Henry Box School, Witney, won the under 17 boys singles at the Oxfordshire Schools Tournament held in Abingdon’s White Horse Leisure & Tennis Centre. In other age groups, Adam Fisk won two gold medals and James Cook a gold and a silver – both from Bartholomew School, Eynsham.
