POLICE were scouring the water and area around Iffley Lock yesterday as part of their search for a missing man.

But this morning officers said there was no update to the situation as of yet.

Thames Valley Police officers were patrolling the waters near the site yesterday morning as part of their search for a man who was reported missing at the weekend.

Teams were first spotted at the site on the River Thames at about 9.30am yesterday.

Force spokeswoman Anne Tugwell said the missing man was last seen in the lock area.

Police officers were spotted on the bank and a fire and water rescue boat was going up and down the waterway.

Canal boats on the lock were moved as police searched.

A dog walker said he was not sure what had been going on, but that the police had been there all day.

Another man, who did not want to be named, added: "There is fire and rescue in the water, behind a barge and around other boats.

"We have heard that someone went in yesterday and the police have been present pretty much ever since."
