THE manager of a coffee shop in George Street has praised the “humanity” of his customers and fellow shoppers who helped rescue a injured cyclist from under a car.

On Thursday afternoon A woman cyclist was left trapped after a blue Ford B-MAX crashed into the window of Java & Co, on the corner of New Inn Hall Street and George Street, on Thursday afternoon.

The group managed to lift the car and free her, allowing paramedics to treat the woman before she was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital with serious leg injuries.

Java & Co manager Ash Fielder said: “Quite a lot of my regular customers went out to help, or moved away to let emergency services in.

“I’m immensely proud of the customers who went out and tried to help.

“The humanity out there was absolutely stellar.

“The fact the whole community came together was uplifting in quite tragic circumstances.

“Mainly What we care about is that the cyclist and the drivers are okay.”

A window was broken when the car crashed into the coffee shop but this has since been boarded up and the 29-year-old, from Risinghurst, resident said customers in the shop were “lucky” to have not sustained any injuries.

No one has been arrested since the collision.
