Police are still appealing for information following the incident.

Det Insp Mike Roddy from Abingdon Force CID said: “This was an extremely frightening incident for the woman involved and she is currently being supported by specially trained officers.

“An investigation is under way and I would like to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything out of the ordinary in the Sandford Lock area today.

“Incidents like this are rare but officers are working to identify the offender and ensure he cannot attempt to harm anyone else.

“As this took place in the middle of the day in the summer I would expect there may have been people who were nearby and might have seen or heard what went on. I would urge anyone with information to contact police as soon as possible via the 101 number.

“Officers are currently at the scene conducting enquiries and a scene watch is in place. There will be extra patrols in the area and anyone with any concerns should speak to them or call 101 for advice.”
